Tafl: viking chess

This Scandinavian strategy board game flourished during the Middle Ages and occupied a cultural role much like chess. It offers multiple rule sets, featuring boards sized 7x7, 9x9, 11x11, or 13x13. Victory may require escorting the king to a board edge or corner, while some versions demand surrounding him from two or four sides. Other variations alter the number of black attackers and white defenders. Play against AI, challenge someone locally on one device, or join online multiplayer matches. Black moves first, followed by alternating turns. Every piece travels vertically or horizontally across any number of empty squares available.
