Tafl: viking chess

This Scandinavian strategy board game was widely played during the Middle Ages and held a status in Scandinavian culture similar to chess. It features several rule variations, including different board sizes such as 7x7, 9x9, 11x11, and 13x13, as well as alternate victory conditions like guiding the king to the edge or corner of the board. Other variants change how the king is surrounded, requiring encirclement from two or four sides, and adjust the number of black attackers and white defenders. You can challenge AI, play locally with another person on one device, or compete online in multiplayer. Black moves first, then turns alternate. Pieces move vertically or horizontally to any number of squares.
